In each city, teams of Shapers self-organize to create projects that address the needs of their community. Projects are wide-ranging – from responding to disasters and combating poverty, to fighting climate change and building inclusive communities. Shapers are diverse in expertise, education, income and race, but are united by their desire to bring about change that makes a difference.

Change leadership during a pandemic - Kate Crawford

I’m excited to have Kate Crawford with us to talk about Change Management – one of the new essential skillsets in the future of work, which is upon us! Please share with your team/network – hope you can make it.

Change leadership during a pandemic: How have we needed to adapt?

Overnight in early 2020 we needed to change our ways of working and drive change advocacy, attitudes and policy changes with regard to work life balance, how we digitally interact with our colleagues and how we could continue to deliver performance outcomes across our organisations. How did you and your leaders do it? Was it successful? What learnings did you gather along the way?

Join the chat on Wed 18 August when Kate shares her journey of delivering a HRIS project during 2020 and how change advocacy from the top was a key ingredient of its success. Kate will be sharing how the experience of delivering the change from her home office has changed how she approaches Change Management now and into the future. Bring to the table your success stories and learnings.

Please share/forward with your teams and network as all sessions are open invite.

Flexible Working Day 2021

It’s Flexible Working Day (#FWDay2021) on Wednesday 2nd June and as a proud FWD ambassador what better way to celebrate the occasion than to dedicate this week’s lunch & learn to one of my favourite causes. Please join me to discuss the benefits of flexible work for both people and organisations, and share learnings of what works and what doesn’t. This year’s FWD theme is “REFRAMING FLEXIBILITY FOR THE FUTURE” so let’s chat about what this means to you.

Flexible Working Day was started by Vanessa Vanderhoek in 2016 as a philanthropic venture, self-funded by her business (FlexAgility) and supported by many amazing organisations and ambassadors around the globe. Post 2020 many organisations are positively modernising their approach to flex, but sadly this isn't the case for all, so we need to keep fighting until working conditions are fair for all.

See the "Celebrate with Us" Guide for ideas on how you can get involved and support Flexible Work in your team and network. You can follow Flexible Working Day on social media – Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram – and use the hashtags! There are pledge cards on the website if you want to share a photo on the socials. You can get in touch with Vanessa via email below.

If you want some training and coaching to further develop your skills, you can register for a transformational professional development programs - click here to register today.

8 Planning Steps for Gutsy Presenters - Jenny Lord

Context

Being a capable presenter is a learnt skill. To learn how to develop and deliver a great presentation, you need the right guidance. Someone who'll challenge you and build your confidence. And finally, you need a safe environment to learn, because it's going to get messy before the magic happens! We've created one of the most powerful presentation skills programs that delivers just that - Gutsy Presenting. For the high-stakes communicators who need to creatively and persuasively present their case, or for those who are just plain terrified of getting up and speaking in front of a group. The guidance will begin from your very first introduction and you’ll leave a different presenter than you came. Guaranteed.

Topic

A key factor that stands out the most is the evidence of a prepared presenter. Very few individuals can effectively ‘wing’ high-stakes communications. There are few things in life more painful than being caught ill prepared in front of a discerning audience – but being in an audience witnessing an ill prepared presenter can be just as challenging. Professional communicators are always being judged and therefore it makes sense to be judged favourably.

Preparation is one of the only few steps that a communicator can control. But we know that professionals are typically time poor and naive on how to build effective and influential presentations.

The TACTICIAN Eight Planning Steps provides a tried and tested method for preparing for any high stakes presentation.

Jen will give you a snapshot of the GUTSY Presenting training, focusing on the eight planning steps that everyone should follow when preparing to present (both face to face and virtually).

Who's Jen?

An ex-HR Manager in Qld Government, Jen has been running her own small consulting business for the past four years; and also partners with a company called Tactician to run their face to face and virtual GUTSY programs in Queensland. Check out her LinkedIn profile and website Take Action Consulting to get to know Jen more before the session.

Champions of Change Coalition - Amanda Hede

We all know that issues of gender equality, sexual harassment & discrimination, and domestic violence, are unfortunately very relevant in our society and workplaces. There is some fantastic energy and momentum building to drive positive change and contributing to this is Amanda Hede and the team at Champions of Change Coalition. I hope you can join in this fantastic session to hear about some of the great work being done and learn how you can be part of change for the better.

Amanda Hede is Program Director, Champions of Change Coalition (Champions of Change) Founding and Health Groups. In this role, Amanda supports CEOs to implement and accelerate change in their organisations to create gender equality.

Prior to working at Champions of Change, Amanda held a range of corporate roles within the Australian Public Service. These roles included leading efforts to create a more diverse workforce and inclusive workplace at the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.

Maybe you’re looking for your next move, maybe you’re looking for potential talent, maybe you’re looking to collaborate with industry peers and knowledge share, or maybe you’re just interested to hear what’s happening outside the mental boxes we work in every day. D&I Masterclass - Maureen Frank, Emberin

What does best practice D&I actually look like? What are the strategies that make a real difference? Join in to chat with Maureen Frank, Chief Disruption Officer, Emberin, and hear how to do inclusion and diversity better, deliver visible results, and make a difference to the bottom line.

Most organisations are fatigued with an approach to diversity and inclusion which doesn’t seem to get impactful results. Leaders are supportive of diversity and inclusion and diversity training but it’s hard for it to be a real priority when there are so many expectations on leaders and what they are responsible for…..what they really want is an inclusive workplace.

We know that in order for diversity and inclusion to be a REAL priority we must demonstrate a bottom-line impact – and it must be simplified to support leaders to achieve a number of the expectations upon them. The latest approach aligns to our quest to get to a REAL ROI. This has been developed though 5,000 leaders worldwide participating in our programs with significant results – and based on at least 10,000 conversations with leaders seeking to know what they really need to make this the way they operate.

So how do we get it right and stop wasting time and effort on D&I strategies that don’t deliver meaningful change? Don’t miss out joining in to chat and learn how we can start doing it better.

Behavioural Science - Clarissa Keil, Nudge By Design

We all have 100s of cognitive biases that influence our daily behaviour and drive our often seemingly “irrational” decisions. The field of behavioural science is about understanding and working WITH, rather than AGAINST these biases to nudge people into better decisions and behaviours.

The session will cover:

Why understanding the key cognitive biases of your customers, citizens or employees is essential if you want to get strong outcomes for both them and your organisation.

There are 100s of cognitive biases, but which are the 4 most important ones to tackle?

A simple behaviour change model to successfully identify, analyse and guide behaviours.

A quick word about the ethics of nudging…

Clarissa has deep experience in UX, CX, Behavioural Science and Marketing and has consulted to many large organisations and not-for-profits. Her experience is highly practical with 1000s of hours interacting with real customers, employees and citizens. That’s where she discovered how important understanding and leveraging irrational behaviour is to successful behaviour change.

Winning @ Virtual Engagement + EX - Joey Chan, GLASS & Co.

You will not want to miss this session! We welcome back Joey Chan from GLASS & Co. to enlighten us once again on how to win at the virtual workshop game and how it can impact Employee Experience (EX). Joey presented in the 2020 series and her session was one of the most popular, receiving amazing feedback. I’m so excited to have her back and continue the conversation on such an essential emergent skillset.

2020 showed us that leading or contributing to workshops in a virtual setting is a skill you need now and for the future. You can no longer rely on in person workshops to problem solve or plan, and neither should you. What if your team is dispersed, hybrid, or international? Moreover, how can you optimise EX in every way including how you bring your people together virtually to connect, brainstorm and empathise. In this session we’ll recap the previous session if you missed it & dig deeper with practical tips that you can take back to benefit your team. My suggestion is that developing your skills in this space will set you apart in the time ahead, so come along and challenge how you’ve always done things.

Joel McInnes, FlexCareers

COVID19 was an accelerant for new ways of working rather than the catalyst for change itself – we were always going to get to a hybrid work arrangement and COVID has given us the opportunity to experience it at scale.

So if everyone is working at least partly from home, what does flexibility mean in the new normal?

The FlexReady Certification Program provides a new framework to analyse the lived experience of flexibility across eight different pillars. Less laundry list, more quantitative analysis in a true apples-for-apples basis. In this Lunch&Learn session, we’ll go over the FlexReady framework and see insights and data from Australia’s leading public and private sector employers.

Joel McInnes is CEO and co-founder of FlexCareers, an Australian platform business whose purpose is to enable its community to live better lives through flexible work. A former investment banker and data geek at heart, Joel is passionate about leveling the playing field for all Australians and to use the FlexCareers platform to help the country dig itself out of a post-COVID economic hole.
